Super AntiCancer Agent Number Four– Aloe Vera
Here, we look at Aloe Vera and its anti-cancer activity.
Two species of Aloe vera plants have been researched extensively– Aloe arborescens and Aloe barbadensis Miller; both show anti-cancer properties; Three different mechanisms involve antioxidant, immunostimulation and antiproliferation.
The antiproliferation effect is due to barbaloin, a chemical found in the gel of the Aloe vera leaf. In comparison, the immunostimulating action comes from acemannan, a mucopolysaccharide of Aloe vera gel.
Studies show that some aloe Vera seeds contain a chemical aloe-emodin, which strengthens the macrophage immune cells fighting capability against tumours and leukaemia.
Moreover, Russian scientists have exciting news, aloe juice shrinks tumour growth and affects metastases at various stages of cancer. Another compound Acemannan, found in aloe vera, enhances the immune system. The aloe gel blocks angiogenesis (prevention of new blood vessels forming), reducing the spread of cancer in the body (metastasis).
